Our Commitment

At Munchkins Family, our goal is simple: place healthy, well-socialized Munchkin kittens with families who are ready to love them for life. We raise our kittens in a clean, structured environment, provide routine veterinary care, and set each kitten up for a confident transition into their new home.

This Health Guarantee explains what we cover, what we require from new owners, and the steps to take if a health concern arises.

1) Veterinary Care Before Placement

Before going home, each kitten:

  • Receives age-appropriate vaccinations and routine deworming
  • Is checked for overall wellness (eyes, ears, heart/lungs, hydration, coat/skin, weight, and general condition)
  • Leaves eating well and using the litter box
  • Goes home with medical records and care instructions

Note: Vaccination timing depends on age and your pickup date. Your kitten may need additional boosters after going home.

2) What Your Kitten Comes With

Each kitten goes home with:

  • Vaccination and deworming records
  • Written copy of this Health Guarantee
  • Current food information (and a small starter supply when available)
  • Transition tips for the first week (feeding, litter, routine)
  • Lifetime breeder support for general care questions

3) New Owner Responsibilities (Required)

To keep this guarantee valid, you agree to the following:

3.1) Veterinary Exam After Pickup

  • You must schedule a veterinary exam within 72 hours (3 days) of bringing your kitten home (excluding Sundays/major holidays, if applicable).
  • Your veterinarian must be licensed (DVM).
  • If you choose not to complete this exam within the timeframe, the kitten is considered accepted as-is, and the guarantee may be void.

3.2) Ongoing Preventive Care

You agree to:

  • Keep your kitten on a veterinarian-recommended schedule for vaccinations, parasite prevention, and wellness exams
  • Provide proper nutrition, clean water, and a safe indoor environment
  • Avoid exposure to high-risk environments until vaccine series is complete (pet stores, shelters, unknown animals, etc.)

3.3) Stress & Transition

Moving homes can temporarily affect appetite, stool, and energy. Mild stress symptoms can be normal for the first few days. We will support you with transition guidance.

4) Contagious/Communicable Illness Coverage (Initial Period)

4.1) Coverage Window

We guarantee the kitten is free of serious, life-threatening contagious illness at the time of placement. If your veterinarian diagnoses a serious contagious illness within 72 hours of pickup, we will review the case.

4.2) What You Must Do

  • Notify us immediately (same day you receive the diagnosis).
  • Provide written veterinary documentation (diagnosis, test results, treatment plan).
  • Follow your veterinarian’s treatment recommendations.

4.3) Resolution

If verified, we will offer one of the following (our choice, depending on circumstances):

  • replacement kitten when available, or
  • refund of the purchase price (excluding delivery/transport, deposits, and third-party fees) upon return of the kitten with veterinary documentation.

Because contagious illness can be contracted after leaving our care, we evaluate each situation based on timing, exposure risk, and veterinary records.

5) Genetic / Congenital Health Coverage

5.1) Coverage Window

This guarantee covers certain genetic or congenital conditions that significantly impact quality of life and are confirmed by a licensed veterinarian.

Coverage period: 12 months from the kitten’s birth date (unless your sales contract states a different term).

5.2) What’s Covered

Conditions may include serious congenital defects that are:

  • Present from birth (even if not immediately visible), and
  • Confirmed by a veterinarian through appropriate diagnostics, and
  • Considered severe enough to require major treatment or significantly affect long-term health

5.3) What’s Not Covered

This guarantee does not cover conditions related to:

  • Injuries, accidents, neglect, or improper handling
  • Poor nutrition, obesity, or lack of preventive care
  • Environmental exposure (toxins, unsafe plants, infectious exposure after pickup)
  • Stress-related issues due to transition or travel
  • Minor conditions that are easily treatable and do not impact long-term quality of life

6) Munchkin Breed-Specific Notes (Important)

Munchkin cats have shortened legs. While many live normal, healthy lives, no breeder can guarantee that a kitten will never develop orthopedic concerns.

This guarantee does not cover:

  • Normal variation in leg length, stature, or gait
  • Non-disabling patellar laxity or mild orthopedic findings that do not affect quality of life
  • Conditions caused or worsened by obesity, excessive jumping without safe setup, or inappropriate activity

We encourage owners to:

  • Maintain a healthy weight
  • Use ramps/steps to furniture
  • Provide joint-friendly play and safe climbing setups

7) Vaccinations, Parasites, and “Normal Kitten Issues”

7.1) Vaccines

Kittens require a series of vaccines and boosters. We provide age-appropriate vaccines prior to placement, but your vet must continue the series.

7.2) Parasites

Even with deworming, kittens can occasionally show:

  • Soft stool
  • Mild diarrhea
  • Occasional parasites requiring follow-up treatment

These issues are common in kittens and typically treatable. They are not considered grounds for refund/replacement unless severe and confirmed within the initial exam window with supporting diagnostics.

8) Exclusions (What Voids the Guarantee)

This guarantee may be void if:

  • The kitten is not examined by a vet within the required timeframe
  • The kitten is exposed to high-risk environments or unvaccinated animals immediately after placement
  • The kitten is not kept indoors or is allowed to roam
  • Vaccinations and routine care are not maintained
  • The kitten is altered/treated contrary to veterinary advice or in a way that compromises health
  • There is evidence of mistreatment, neglect, or unsafe living conditions

9) If a Health Concern Happens — What to Do

  1. Contact us immediately with details and photos/video if helpful.
  2. See your licensed veterinarian (or emergency clinic if urgent).
  3. Request written documentation including:
    • Diagnosis
    • Tests performed and results
    • Treatment plan
    • Prognosis
  4. Send documentation to us within 24 hours of receiving it.

We will respond promptly and work with you on next steps.

10) Refunds, Replacements, and Limits

  • Deposits are typically non-refundable unless stated otherwise in your sales agreement.
  • Transportation/delivery costs, third-party fees, and veterinary costs are not refundable.
  • If a replacement is offered, it will be of similar value when available.
  • We do not guarantee coat color, pattern, eye color changes, or adult size.

11) Right of First Return (If You Can’t Keep Your Kitten)

If at any time you cannot keep your kitten, please contact us first. We will help with options and may require the kitten be returned to us or rehomed with our approval. This protects the kitten and ensures responsible placement.

12) Agreement

By adopting from Munchkins Family, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to this Health Guarantee and your responsibilities as an owner.
